High temperatures create parched scenes on Berrow Beach

Evaporated water has left dried salt on the mudflatsSizzling summer temperatures are taking their toll on the landscape around Burnham, with mud on Berrow beach drying up and creating unusual scenes this week.

These photos – taken on Saturday (July 22nd) – show the parched mudflats drying up and breaking into pieces.

Further along the beach, the mud has changed from its usual brown colour into a white paste as water has evaporated in recent days, leaving salt on top.

Coastguards are warning people not to venture out onto the mud, though, as beneath the dry surface lurks dangerous moist material.

Forecasters are predicting more high temperatures in coming days with the middle of the week expected to see more record highs.
