New life-saving defibrillator unveiled after community backs initiative

-

A new life-saving public access defibrillator has ‘gone live’ in Pawlett this week following widespread community support.

The defibrillator has been unveiled on the front wall of the Royal British Legion Club facing the road so that it can be both easily seen and accessed in the case of an emergency.

The defibrillator was purchased by the Pawlett Legion Club Committee via the British Heart Foundation grant scheme.

The lit, weather-proof and heated cabinet was funded by the Pawlett Legion’s Branch Committee.

Spokesman Lee Simmonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There has been widespread support for this initiative within the village community.”

“Other clubs and organisations within the village are supporting this initiative by providing donations and funds for the consumables needed to keep the device fully operational such as replacement batteries, electrode pads and electrode pads suitable for infants and children aged 1-8 years.”

“There are also ongoing fundraising events such as the raffle currently taking place at the Royal British Legion Club.”

Basic life support training will take place at the Royal British Legion Club using the training kit provided by the British Heart Foundation.
