New parking restrictions have come into force along part of Berrow Road in Burnham-On-Sea this week to resolve traffic congestion from crowds visiting the town’s Trinity Close Christmas lights display.
Somerset County Council’s Highways team has introduced a new temporary ‘No Waiting At Any Time’ restriction for the remainder of December following concern from residents and Burnham-On-Sea Police about vehicles being parked along Berrow Road every night over the festive season.
Long queues have been seen along Berrow Road on many nights as visitors flock to see the stunning Trinity Close Christmas lights, which have been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ by the national media.
A Burnham Police spokesperson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We have received complaints about long queues along Berrow Road as motorists park and then walk off to the nearby Trinity Close lights. Some drivers have been seen mounting pavements to get around parked vehicles, which is very dangerous. The new regulations will be in enforced.”
A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “The restriction is No Waiting At Any Time between 1st December and 1 January on the eastern side of Berrow Road on the opposite side of the road to the junction with Trinity Rise. The restriction has been brought in to help alleviate parking problems associated with the Christmas lights display in Trinity Close. The lines and signs should be going in during the next couple of weeks.”
The festive lights raise thousands of pounds for charity every year and run until the end of the first week of January.
