A woman suffered serious head injuries after being struck by a car travelling through East Huntspill on Monday evening (October 22nd).

Police sealed off New Road in the village around the junction with Church Road following the incident.

Energency services were initially called to the scene mid-evening and an alternative route was put in place to divert motorists around the scene.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called on Monday at around 6.40pm about a road traffic incident on New Road, East Huntspill. We sent the following resources to attend the incident: two rapid response vehicles, two ambulances, an operations officer, and a helicopter. A female patient was conveyed by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital with a head injury.”

A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police added: “We were called at 18.48 to New Road to reports of aroad traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian. A woman was taken to a hospital in Bristol by Air Ambulance as she suffered serious, possibly life threatening, head injuries.”
