Two roads running through a new housing development at Highbridge’s former cattle market site are to be named after well-known residents.

Local cattle farmer Arthur Duckett, pictured right, who died in 2010, will have one of the roads named after him. And Highbridge Market’s manager, Maurice Wall, will also have his name on a road at the site.

The names were chosen by councillors at a meeting of the Town Council’s Planning Applications Committee on Wednesday (October 22nd).

Cllr Bill Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Arthur was a great character who was very well known in the area. He had strong links with the market site given all his cattle and I think it’s very fitting that he is remembered in this way.”

“Maurice Wall was also the main principal at the cattle market in its final years, so it’s also right that his name should continue here too with a road name.”

The roads will be called Duckett Way and Wall Court and will run through the centre of the new housing development where 59 residential dwellings are being built next to the former Highbridge Hotel.
