Proposals for a tidal barrier across the River Parrett near Burnham-On-Sea are set to go on show at a public drop-in session this month.

One of the aims of the proposed tidal barrier is to prevent major flooding on the Somerset Levels to the scale seen in 2013 and 2014.

“The Environment Agency and Sedgemoor District Council are working in partnership to deliver the barrier by 2024, subject to funding and approvals,” said council spokeswoman Claire Faun.

“Back in December, CH2MHill were appointed as consultants to explore various technical options for the design.”

“Over the next 18 months, we will be looking at a range of potential locations, gate arrangements and operating regimes for the barrier.”

The drop-in session will be held on Thursday, March 10th between 2-7pm at Bridgwater Art Centre in Castle Street for people to hear the latest news about the scheme.

“The event will be an opportunity to ensure that all thoughts and opinions are taken into consideration, so please come along and chat to the project team.”
