Over 130 people attended Somerset Rebels’ 20th Anniversary dinner at the Oaktree Arena clubhouse in Highbridge on Saturday evening (6th April).

Cases Rebels fans, riders, sponsors and management enjoyed a two-course meal, plus the opportunity to mingle with riders of the past.

Speedway TV commentary duo Kelvin Tatum and Nigel Pearson were among the guests, including former MP Tessa Munt, who praised the club’s two decades of success.

World Champion Jason Doyle, who was present at the celebration, said: “20 years of speedway at Somerset is no mean achievement and I am delighted to have been able to ride in four seasons – 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2018.”

“The Hancock family are very special people and I always enjoy riding at the Oaktree where I have always been made extremely welcome and wholly appreciated by the supporters. I wish the 2019 side every success and congratulate the club on their 20th anniversary and wish them all well for the next 20 years and more!”

Rebels Promoter Debbie Hancock said: “It was a very special night in the history of Somerset speedway and it was great to see so many supporters from across the years.”

It was also confirmed that the 20th anniversary challenge meeting, versus Poole speedway, which was postponed last week due to heavy rain, will be held on 1st May.
