Burnham-On-Sea’s planning application process to be simplified

-

The process of applying for planning permission in Burnham-On-Sea is to be made simpler and cheaper from November.

From Monday 2nd November, Sedgemoor District Council’s Development Management section will be offering a new service for giving pre-planning application advice.

“The purpose of this new system is to encourage prospective developers to enter into discussions with us before submitting a planning application,” council spokeswoman Sam Elliott told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“This is to make sure that all areas that need to be considered are covered in the correct manner, and to avoid delays to the process when an application is submitted.”

“The new system will offer the route of getting initial, ‘in principle’ advice to get an opinion on the basic feasibility of a particular development, or detailed advice in which we look into all elements of the proposal.”

“Unlike the system we have historically offered, the charge we make for giving this advice is based on the type of advice that is being asked for, and the type of the development it relates to,” added Sam Elliott.

For detailed advice for small-scale developments a charge of £40 will be made, and if a meeting is necessary the cost will be £60. Minor developments – such as those under ten houses and other development on sites less than 1.0 hectare – will cost £80 and if a meeting is held the charge will be £120. Major developments will cost £1,500.

For ‘in principle’ advice, any non-major developments will cost £40, and if a meeting is held £60, while major developments will cost £80, and if a meeting is held £120.
