Burnham-On-Sea police have made eight arrests during a crackdown on those responsible for criminal damage in the town.

Police officers and PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers) increased their patrols during December and early January by working overtime and the results so far have pleased senior officers.

“Eight individuals have been arrested in Burnham, which is a good result,” Sector Deputy Sgt Roger Tolley told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week.

“A number of the arrests followed criminal damage in the Ramsay Way area and the town centre.”

“That said, I would prefer a lower crime rate rather than high arrest rates – and residents should rest assured that we are working to cut the overall rates of crime.”

The news comes just days after Burnham-On-Sea.com reported on vandalism at Marine Cove on the town’s seafront.
