Police say they have this week clocked 37 motorists travelling at more than 90mph in just one hour on the M5 through Somerset.

During the operation in heavy traffic on Wednesday (October 13th) one vehicle was recorded travelling at 112mph.

Other incidents included a large van speeding at 95mph and a vehicle towing a trailer at 77mph. Officers say the speeds in heavy traffic are unacceptable.

Avon and Somerset Police’s roads policing unit said on social media: “In 1 hour on the M5 near Bridgwater we detected 37 vehicles travelling above 90mph, all in heavy traffic!”

“95mph for a large van; 77mph towing a trailer; 112mph the highest speed recorded.”

“This level of driving will not be accepted by Avon and Somerset Police.”
