Police in fresh appeal after dramatic Burnham-On-Sea car crash and blaze

-

Police are continuing their investigation into the cause of a dramatic crash and car fire in Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday evening (July 25th).

A car collided at speed with a lamp post and a tree in Highbridge Road at 7.55pm before bursting into flames, as pictured here. The two occupants inside were unhurt and left the scene.

Two fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea Fire Station were called and quickly extinguished the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby homes.

Burnham Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A car collided with a lamp-post and caught fire. No-one was injured when officers got to the scene, but we believe some of those in the car had left the scene.”

“Police enquiries into the incident are continuing. Anyone with an interest is asked to contact us on 101, quoting reference 5219170604.”

A fire spokesman added: “Two fire appliances from Burnham-On-Sea attended a car that had caught fire after hitting a lamp post. All persons were out of the vehicle and the Police were on scene.”

“Crews put the fire out using compressed air foam and one hose reel jet. The vehicle was severely destroyed, and the cause was accidental. Duty of care was left with the Police who had cordoned off the area.”
