Queen congratulates Burnham-On-Sea couple on their diamond anniversary

-

A Burnham-On-Sea couple have received a card from The Queen to congratulate them on their 60th wedding anniversary.

Mike and Di Barnard have celebrated their sixth decade of happy marriage this month with a celebration event in West Huntspill, where their card from Her Majesty took pride of place.

Mike is the Secretary of West Huntspill Model Engineering Society and can be seen most Sundays giving rides at the track, while Di is a Past Chairman of Burnham Area Evening Flower Club.

Di – who is a keen flower Arranger and is on the Rota for Wells Cathedral as well as helping out with many local flower festivals – also worked for many years as a Community Nurse in East Brent and is well-known in the Burnham-On-Sea area.

The couple lived for 25 years in Mark before moving to Burnham-On-Sea in 2000.

“We had many friends come from all over the UK to celebrate the anniversary, many of whom we used to spend winters with in Spain or in our touring caravan,” said Di, who added that they were both ‘honoured’ to receive the card from The Queen.
