Highbridge rail passengers face disruption as new strike is set to start

-

A strike on First Great Western trains will leave travellers who use Highbridge and Burnham Railway Station facing disruption on Sunday (August 23rd).

High-speed services through the area will be reduced by the industrial action, says First Great Western which will be operating a revised timetable from Highbridge.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT) will walk out for 24 hours from midnight on Sunday, causing disruption to services.

A second strike is also planned over the Bank Holiday weekend, from Saturday 29th to Monday 31st August.

The dispute has been caused by the introduction of Hitachi Inter City trains and threats to jobs, said the union.

The company has published a list of changes here to its scheduled services, saying it intends to run 70% of its regular timetable.

FGW rail workers held a 48-hour strike last month in the same dispute, causing disruption to tens of thousands of commuters.
