Plans to re-introduce a historic replica of this Burnham-On-Sea railway signal box have been approved by town councillors this week.
Burnham-On-Sea Railway Heritage Group wants to introduce the new building in Old Station Approach, on land south of Pier Street, as part of the ongoing project to celebrate the town’s railway history.
Town councillors considered the plans this week and Cllr Nick Tolley said he welcomed the idea.
“This will be a good enhancement to the town,” he said. “It will be a replica of the same design as the orginal, so it will be a proper strong structure.”
Cllr Andy Brewer said that one resident had lodged an objection amid concern that visibility at the road junction will be affected, however he added there had been no comments from the County Council’s highways officer to support this.
Councillors supported the the application, saying it would be a “welcome visitor attraction.” The final approval rests with Sedgemoor District Council.
