MP presents awards to Burnham-On-Sea Sailing Regatta winners

-

The winners of Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Sailing Regatta have been announced after two weekends of yacht racing in Bridgwater Bay.

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP James Heappey presented the Harry Gratton Trophy to the crew of the winning yacht, called Super Sapphire, during a presentation at the town’s Yacht Club on Sunday evening (August 20th).

Dave Jackson, skipper of Super Sapphire, was named the overall winner following a series of handicap and pursuit races.

Eleven yachts took part in four races over two weekends, despite some challenging weather conditions. Overall, Super Sapphire was first while Merlin was second and Walrus was third.

Commodore Eric Torkildsen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a very successful regatta with some excellent racing. There were several races with limited numbers due to the weather and we thank Pete Wright on Skerries for rescuing two boats in difficulty over the weekends.”
