D-Class Lifeboat called out after ‘body’ spotted off Burnham-On-Sea

Burnham-On-Sea’s D-Class lifeboat was called out on Friday February 25th at 8.42am after a resident reported seeing a ‘body’ floating near Stert Island in Bridgwater Bay.

It turned out that the object was in fact a large log and, as this was deemed to be a danger to shipping, it was quickly returned to shore by the crew of three – as pictured here.

Local police had been alerted by a walker along the seafront that a suspicious object had been sighted. Police alerted Burnham-On-Sea Coastguard, who in turn called on the Lifeboat team to perform a full check of the scene.

Police officers from Burnham police watched the incident at the pier during the call-out (pictured), along with Burnham’s coastguard team.

The D-Class returned to shore at around 9:30am.
