Licenced premises in Burnham area checked by Gambling Commission and council chiefs

-

Licenced premises in Burnham-On-Sea and the surrounding area got some unexpected visits from staff from Sedgemoor District Council’s Licencing Team this week.

Staff teamed up with officers from the Gambling Commission to visit and check several local licensed premises.

“The officers were very pleased that the vast majority of the licence holders were very aware of the Code and showed their responsible attitude toward gambling,” said a council spokesperson.

“They also used the visits to remind licence holders that gaming machines are located in a place within the premises which can be clearly supervised, situated away from ATM machines that may be on site within the same premises, and subject to strict procedures regarding the age checking of anyone who may appear under age for use of the gaming machine in question.”

They also discussed the Gambling Commission’s code of practice for gaming machines in clubs, pubs and premises with alcohol licences.

Further visits are planned to take place across the Burnham area as part of Responsible Gambling Week, a cross-industry initiative to promote responsible gambling.
