Review: ‘Stunning performance’ by Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society

-

Saturday’s performance of Mozart’s Requiem Mass by Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society has attracted high praise from the audience.

The concert was held in front of the town’s Mayor and Mayoress and a capacity audience at St Andrew’s Church.

Burnham-On-Sea.com reader Joan Locock reviews the performance:

“While the rest of the town was in the grip of storm-force winds, the audience in St Andrew’s Church were being blown away by a stunning performance of Mozart’s Requiem Mass by the Burnham and Highbridge Choral Society.”

“A packed church was thrilled by the opening Te Deum, by Haydn, followed by other well-known choral works. They were privileged also to hear solos from Samuel Oram (baritones), Richard Allen (tenor), Rachel Falaise (mezzo contralto),and Krystl Ride (soprano).”

“But the highlight of the evening was the second-half performance of Mozart’s Requiem Mass, a piece usually performed with a full orchestra but on this occasion Frances Webb and John Bodiley astounded with a magical ’four hand’ accompaniment on piano.”

“Nicholas Bromilow’s obvious rapport with the choir has brought them a long way under his brilliant musical direction.”

“All are to be congratulated on the sensitive, and at times dynamic performance of all the pieces.”

“It was a most unforgettable evening and the delighted audience went back out into the storm with a definite spring in their step!”
