Burnham Lifeboats Manager presents crew performance awards

-

Two crewmembers at Burnham-On-Sea’s lifeboat station have this week been presented with the awards to recognise their dedication to the roles.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Ricky Holmes presented Training Coordinator Lyndon Baker with the station LOM award during Wednesday’s training session, which was Ricky’s last rostered duty as LOM.

The award marks Lyndon’s dedication and performance during the past 12 months. As well as being a qualified helmsman, Lyndon is responsible for ensuring volunteer crewmembers are all trained to specified RNLI targets.

Also recognised was ‘Fuel Fairy’ Ron Fisher, who for the past seven years has resolutely kept lifeboat and tractor fuel reserves stocked up and ready for any demand. He earned the title ‘Fuel Fairy’ after being challenged by one new crewmember and being asked whether he really does the role.

He was asked; ‘you don’t do that do you?’ Ron replied; ‘Who do you think gets the fuel?’ Whereupon another crewmember suggested that the fairies probably fetched it, and Ron’s nickname was cast.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Ricky Holmes said: “RNLI headquarters recognize the high attainment of training targets at Burnham and I am immensely proud of our achievements. Thank you Lyndon for all your hard work!”

He added: “Ron has worked reliably in the background, ensuring our fuel requirements are always met, for without fuel the lifeboats cannot launch. We have an excellent team at Burnham.”
