Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress were on hand at this week’s official opening of a temporary shop being run by the town’s Rotary Club.
The former Threshers off-licence store in College Street has been turned into an information centre for one week by Rotary Club members to provide details about the club’s worldwide work to cure polio.
Burnham Rotary Club President Jim Tancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Since 1985, when Rotary International began its ‘Thanks for Life’ polio immunisation programme, the number of people across the world suffering from polio has fallen from 350,000 to just 1,000.”
“This work is being explained on several information disiplays inside the former Threshers shop throughout this week. We will also have details about how people can help and also join up as members of Burnham Rotary Club.”
The worldwide Rotary organisation celebrated its 105th anniversary on Tuesday (February 23rd).
Burnham Mayor and Mayoress Derick and Christine Cooper visited the shop, as pictured, which is open until Saturday evening (February 27th).
