Warning issued by King Alfred School after pupils are approached at seafront pub

-

Highbridge’s King Alfred School Academy has issued a safety warning to students after a woman approached two youngsters at a pub in the town.

The school issued ‘safeguarding’ advice this afternoon (Thursday), advising pupils to be alert following the incident in Burnham’s seafront JD Wetherspoon pub, The Reed’s Arms.

The school says: “A parent has made us aware of an incident last night whereby her daughter and friend were approached by a female in Wetherspoons in Burnham-On-Sea.”

“It was early evening and the two girls were having their tea – it is a popular venue for our older students.”

“The female approached them and asked for help to find a hotel – she wanted the girls to take her to a hotel.”

“Her reason was she was afraid of her partner. The girls acted appropriately and contacted a parent who then went to Wetherspoons and dealt with the situation.”

“The parent felt there was something suspicious going on. They have reported it to the Police.”

“Our advice would be to our students if approached in such a manner to speak to a member of staff and let them deal with the situation and, as these girls did, let your parents know immediately. Do not go off with anyone who tries to enlist you in helping in such a situation.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in contact on 101 quoting reference AS-20190424-1165.
