A man who fled the scene of a car crash at Burnham-On-Sea and left an injured woman and baby behind is yet to be found, Police have confirmed.

Burnham’s Berrow Road was closed between the junctions of Saxondale Avenue and Ash Tree Road for over nine hours on Sunday (May 12th) when a car smashed into a lamppost and garden wall and then ended up on its roof.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene at 12.15am, where they found an injured woman and young child, but no driver. Police said that efforts were being made to locate the man.

However, a spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday (May 16th) that the search is ongoing.

“Police enquiries are continuing,” said the spokesman. “The injured woman remains in hospital with a head injury, broken ribs and a lung injury. The infant who was injured has been released from hospital.”
