The team at Secret World Wildlife Rescue near Burnham-On-Sea have announced the launch of a fundraising online auction in place of their annual ball and auction night.

At this time of year, the charity usually runs a very popular auction and ball, its biggest fundraising event of the year, which is enjoyed by staff and supporters.

Last year’s event had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions and the difficult decision was made to postpone again this year to keep everyone safe.

David Plant, Fundraising Officer at Secret World Wildlife Rescue, says: “We are very sad that we can’t host our Auction and Ball again this year, but we felt it was the right decision in the current circumstances.”

“We love this opportunity to socialise with our supporters and it’s a great chance for our staff to dress up and let their hair down after the busiest part of the year.”

“The event is a great source of income which we had hoped to start running again this year, but everyone’s safety is our priority at this time.”

“We are pleased to be running an online auction though for the second year running. Last year’s event has a great success, raising over £7,000 which was much needed after an extremely difficult six months.”

“I don’t think any of us thought we would be in this situation a year on. Please get involved and bid generously, injured and orphaned wild animals need your help to give them a second chance at life.”

The auction is being run on the charity’s Facebook page. You can view all the auction lots in a photo album here.

Supporters are invited to bid through the comments on each photo or get in touch with David or if they would like to place an anonymous bid.

Bidding on star items ends at 9pm on Friday 12th November, and on everything else at 9pm on Saturday 13th November.

Secret World Wildlife Rescue, based in East Huntspill, helps injured and orphaned wildlife across the South west. Details of 2022’s annual Auction and Ball will be announced shortly.
