Burnham-On-Sea night club’s lap dancing bid set to be finally decided

-

Controversial plans to introduce lap dancing and extended late night opening hours at a Burnham-On-Sea night club could be given the go-ahead later this month.

A public hearing will be held at Bridgwater Magistrates Court on January 22nd to finally decide whether Shakers in the High Street (pictured above) can go ahead with its plans for occasional lap dancing.

Tony Baker of Sedgemoor’s Licensing Panel told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the appeal by Shakers’ owners against last year’s decision by the district council to refuse its application would start at 10am.

Shakers is requesting a variation to its licence in order to open until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays, and introduce occasional lap dancing.

Sedgemoor’s Licensing Panel rejected the application last year after reviewing the comments of local police, residents and councillors who expressed concern about the impact the longer opening hours would have on the nearby community.

Town councillors also raised questions about the controversial plan at their planning meeting in April 2006, saying they too were concerned about noise and nuisance problems in the area.

Under the proposals, clubbers at Shakers would be able to leave the building to have a smoke and then get back into the club.
