Burnham-On-Sea firefighters rescued a stricken sheep which had fallen into a ditch yesterday evening (Monday, July 28th).

One fire engine was called to help free the stranded animal from a rhyne in fields next to Burnham’s Frank Foley Parkway, as pictured here.

The fire service was alerted after several young walkers spotted the sheep in difficuty at just after 8pm.

Nearby resident Rachel Ford told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “My step sons had been in the fields when they heard the sheep bleating and told me. I was a little embarassed to call 999, but the fire crew were very quickly on scene and did a great job. They said we’d been right to call for them.”

The fire service said it always attends such incidents to avoid the risk of people putting themselves in difficulty by trying to reach animals themselves.
