Part of Burnham-On-Sea High Street was sealed off by police on Tuesday evening after a man was stabbed and left with ‘serious’ injuries.

Police were called to the scene shortly at 7.20pm, as pictured here, and an area of the High Street next to Lloyds Bank was closed until 9.15pm.

The forecourt of the nearby Esso petrol station in Oxford Street was also closed by police as their investigation began.

Police spokesman Scott McPherson told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police were called by an ambulance crew at 7.20pm to reports of a 20 year-old male who had been stabbed in the arm in the High Street.”

“He was taken to hospital with injuries that are serious but not life-threatening. We cordoned off the scene and an investigation is underway. We would appeal for witnesses to the incident to call us on 101.”

An eyewitness near the petrol station told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A man was stabbed in the arm – he came running into the shop at the petrol station to get help from the direction of the town centre. There was blood everywhere.”

Five police cars, an ambulance and a rapid response first aid car have been called to an incident at the Esso garage in Burnham’s Oxford Street.
