Concern for dog walker prompts search of Stert Island

-

Stert Island was searched by Burnham’s Coastguards and hovercraft crews last night (Sunday) amid concern that a dog walker could be in difficulty.

Crews were alarted at 9.33pm after two seafront residents reporting seeing a dog on the island in the dwindling light.

Coastguard Officer Dave Welland told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Given the sighting of a dog, there were concerns that a person could be with it.”

“A search of the island was therefore conducted with the help of BARB’s two hovercrafts.”

“Two flares were also fired into the air to illuminate the area, without any sign of the dog or a person being found.”

He added that the incident had been a call with good intent.
