Gale-force winds gusting up to 65mph gave Burnham-On-Sea a battering on Friday (June 8th).

Big waves struck Burnham’s sea wall at the height of the morning’s tide, pictured.

A windsurfer was rescued from next to Brean Down on Thursday night by Weston’s lifeboats after getting into trouble in the gales. Two lifeboats reached the stranded windsurfer and an RNLI spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The casualty was picked up, cold and tired, but otherwise uninjured. He was taken ashore at Uphill boatyard where he was handed over to the care of the Coastguard. He was not taken to hospital.”

Meanwhile, several kite surfers took advantage of the windy conditions on Friday to venture out into Bridgwater Bay, as pictured below.

The storms swept in after the Met Office issued a severe weather warning for heavy rain and strong westerly winds for the whole of the region.

While several trees came down in the area, there was no repeat of the widespread damage caused during April’s storms.
