Strong winds and high tides have created unseasonably stormy conditions in Burnham-On-Sea this weekend.

50mph southwesterly gusts whipped up big waves, as pictured here, sending plumes of spray over the sea wall in several locations.

The winds, accompanied by heavy, blustery showers, caused the postponement of a beach clean in Burnham-On-Sea and an outdoor opera event at Apex Park in Highbridge on Saturday.

The Met Office issued a ‘yellow’ severe weather warning advising people to take care if using seafronts and beaches. Rescue crews were called out late on Saturday evening after concerns that a person was in the sea, as reported here.
