The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has just launched its nationwide 2017 initiative to introduce 5-8 year olds to the game of tennis and Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club has been chosen as one of the clubs taking part.

2000 children nationally will be involved in this grassroots initiative with 60 youngsters from the Burnham-On-Sea area invited to join a free six-week course.

The course is aimed at children who have never played tennis before, focusing on fun and getting kids active, combining hand eye co-ordination with basic tennis skills.

The children will learn to work as a member of a team in a relaxed environment and parents will be encouraged to join in for the final session when all 60 children will be given their first tennis racquet.

Many of the available places have already been allocated following visits to primary schools by Julie Williams of JW Tennis and her coaching team, who have all been selected to run the initiative and specially trained by the likes of Leon Smith (GB Davis Cup Captain) and the LTA team.

There are still some places remaining which can be booked online https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/TennisForKids

The six courses, each with 10 children, will take place at the Avenue Tennis Club in The Grove commencing April 25th, 26th and 27th.
