The Works says delayed opening of new store in Burnham-On-Sea may not proceed

-

Nationwide chain The Works has this week said there is an ’80 per cent chance’ that its plans to open a new store in Burnham-On-Sea town centre won’t go ahead.

The Works – which sells books, art and craft materials, gifts, toys, games and stationery – has over 500 stores across the UK.

It had planned to open a new store at 35 The High Street in mid-September, and has advertised vacancies online, held interviews with potential new staff, and also had a planning application for new signs and shopfront branding approved by the Town Council.

But, talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com this week, a spokeswoman for The Works said:  “Unfortunately Burnham-On-Sea is not looking likely at the moment.”

“There’s about an 80% chance of this not going through. Work on the property has not progressed, so we are unable to confirm any date.”

The new store was due to open in place of a vacant premises previously occupied by New Look, as first reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The unit was previously occupied by New Look, which closed in September 2018.
