Beacons to be lit across UK to mark 200th anniversary of Battle of Trafalgar

Brent Knoll to join nationwide chain of beacon lightings


A beacon will be lit on top of Brent Knoll during a nationwide chain of lightings to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in October.

The beacon will be lit at 7:15pm on on Friday October 21st as part of a synchronised celebration of Nelson’s achievement.

Parish councillor Peter Osborne will light a brazier of straw on top of the Knoll which, weather permitting, will be seen in Burnham and for miles across Somerset.

Brent Knoll will be the site of one of the nationwide beacon lightingsThe lightings will begin in Plymouth and will kick off three days of festivities across the UK from October 21st-23rd to celebrate The Trafalgar Weekend.

The festival commemorates the UK’s most celebrated naval victory, which on 21st October 1805 scuppered Napoleon’s plans to invade Britain.
