A group of travellers left a Burnham-On-Sea car park on Monday evening (October 30th) after setting a fire following a court order to leave.

Sedgemoor District Council served the group in Burnham’s Pier Street car park with a formal legal notice after obtaining a ‘possession order’ in court on Monday morning.

The travellers set fire to a mattress, as pictured here, before leaving the car park minutes later at around 5.30pm.

A Burnham-On-Sea.com reader says he saw the vehicles being driven along the A38 and onto the northbound M5 motorway.

Several caravans with adults and young children had been parked in the far southern most area of Burnham’s Pier Street car park for eight days, with washing strung between the vehicles.

Last week, Burnham’s MP James Heappey met with the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Sajid Javid this week, as reported here, to try and find a long-term solution for the issue of travellers across the constituency.
