160 athletes compete in Burnham-On-Sea’s summer triathlon

Over 160 athletes took part in Burnham-On-Sea’s annual summer triathlon on Sunday morning (June 12th).

“We had a fantastic morning of racing, with 160+ athletes, 50+ marshalls and fantastic support from participants, family, friends and the local community,” the event’s co-organiser Sara Cox Conklin told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

The ladies champions were first Vicky Emmett, second Joanne Filer, and third Sue Bidgood. The ladies age group winners were Connie Baker (15-19), Marie-Louise Kertzman (20-29) and Rosemary Hannam (50-59).

The men’s winners were 1st Jason Emmett, 2nd Iain Hindes and 3rd Matt Cooke. The male age group winners were Jos Kertzman (15-19), Chris Perring (20-29), Joe Beer (40 – 49), David Bourne (50-59), Chris Cox (60-69) and Gordon Rawlings (70+). The full results are available online here.

A new award – The Arthur Gilbert Award – was also given this year to the oldest triathlete finisher.

This special award is presented in memory of the late Arthur Gilbert who was in the Guinness book of records for being the oldest triathlete to finish a race (at age 92) which he achieved at the Burnham Triathlon.

The first recipient of this award is Gordon Rawlings who is 76 years, right. He said he was “honoured” to receive the award.
