Highbridge Monarchs Gymnastics

Three gymnasts from Highbridge’s Monarchs Gymnastics Club who qualified to compete in the British Championships on the weekend before the country went into lockdown last year have finally got a chance to compete this month – and shone.

The trio – Gina, Evie and Summer – didn’t get the opportunity to compete in the finals in Stoke in March 2020 against all the regional finalists across the country.

However, they finally got a chance to compete last weekend at the South West Prelims and finished in first position in the south west region to gain a place at next month’s British Championships.

The club’s Mandy Warburton says: “Our gymnasts, with the help of their coaches and their parents’ support, worked hard to keep themselves really well conditioned via Zoom sessions. Them, when restrictions were eased a bit, we had the kind offer of a field for them to train in, but went back onto Zoom when we went back into further lockdown.”

“This enabled Gina, Evie and Summer to get back on track with their training over the last couple of months and last weekend they competed in the South West Prelims.”

“After coming in first position in the south west region they are now looking forward to competing in the British Championships on 13th November!”

“We would like to say a huge thanks for the support given to us from our local Town Council and Sedgemoor Council with grants to help our club keep going and enable us to keep the whole club together.”

“All of our classes are now back to normal as well as the birthday parties which were missed.”

“We are now working really hard with a lot of new partnerships, getting ready to compete in November in the South West Championships in Yate on 6th November.”
