A community clean-up operation will be held at East Huntspill School today (Saturday, January 3rd) after mean vandals left a trail of damage there on New Year’s Day.

The school will be open at 10am for local people to help tidy up the school grounds to help it re-open on schedule for the start of the school term on Monday.

The school has offers of assistance from many local individuals and groups, including Burnham Lions Club.

“We are so grateful for all the support and offers of help,” Amy Griffin, from the school’s PTA group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Police say three people in dark clothing were seen near the school at around 7pm on New Year’s Eve and they are keen to identify them.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the break-in – which occurred on New Year’s Eve – when vandals broke play equipment and smashed down doors to cause damage.

Amy added: “We’re all absolutely shocked and very, very upset that someone would do this. There has been a lot of damage to the outdoor play areas. Many pre-school outdoor toys have been broken and there has been damage to our memorial garden wildlife pond.”

“It’s awful for the school’s children that the equipment has been damaged in this way – it’s senseless. Play equipment was also spread across the playing field at the side of the school.”

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact them on 101.
