A warning has been issued by the fire service following a series of hay and straw fires across the area.

A Devon and Somerset Fire Service  spokesman says it has attended several small fires involving hay bales and straw fires in recent days.

“We wanted to remind the public & farmers how easily these fires can start.”

“Hay stacks next to roads & public footpaths are vulnerable to fires – either from discarded cigarette ends or by arson.”

Motorists have been urged not to discard cigarettes out of moving vehicles.
