Burnham hovercrafts called to Weston after mud safety scare on beach

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercrafts were called to Weston on Friday evening (June 5th) amid concern for the safety of a group of people seen wading through thick mud.

Four young people were reported to be wading through the mud on the lower part of the beach near Weston Pier, prompting a call-out for two teams of Coastguards along with volunteers from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue.

“There was concern for the group due to their distance out in the mud and the state of the incoming tide,” explained a spokesman.

Fortunately, all four managed to walk to safety and were given safety advice by Coastguards.

The incident occurred just an hour before BARB’s AGM in Burnham.
