Double yellow lines return outside Burnham hovercraft station

-

Double yellow lines which were covered up during roadworks a month ago outside Burnham-On-Sea’s rescue hovercraft station were re-introduced on Wednesday (October 12th) after safety fears were raised earlier in the week.

Hovercraft charity BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) warned on Monday that vital minutes could be wasted in reaching beach rescues because council delays in repainting the double yellow lines had led to many motorists parking their vehicles outside the seafront station, potentially preventing the life-saving hovercrafts from leaving.

Somerset County Council spokeswoman Elizabeth Kulh told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday: “There was a breakdown in communication between the contractor and sub-contractor after recent resurfacing work which is being investigated.”

“When the error was recognised, prompt action by the contractor quickly reinstated the no parking zone.”

BARB Operations Manager Mike Lowe said: “We are grateful to the council for resolving this matter. We hope that the problem of vehicles blocking our hovercrafts during recent weeks has now been resolved.”
