Scouts appeal for funding help
TWO Explorer Scouts from Burnham-On-Sea who have been selected to represent Somerset at the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden this summer are holding two fundraising events this weekend. Emily Burland and Rebecca Roseff each have to raise £2,000 to attend.
New warning signs welcomed
Exclusive: NEW warning signs have been introduced on Brean Down by the National Trust following a series of dog deaths on the steep cliffs. Burnham-On-Sea.com reported earlier this month how pet owners had stepped up their calls for improved warnings after five deaths on the Down this year.
Voice of ITV's 'X-Factor' to visit
PETER Dickson, the voice of ITV1's The X-Factor, will be visiting a Brean holiday park this weekend when he joins up with a pop group to perform a summer hit. Members of the public are welcome to visit Pontin's Brean Sands on Sunday 25th July at around 9pm.
Crowds flock to flower show
A COLOURFUL flower festival attracted crowds of visitors to a tiny church on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend. Over a dozen colourful flower displays were on show at the two-day event in Edithmead Church, which ended on Sunday afternoon (July 18th).
Britannia boosts town charity
GENEROUS staff at a bank in Burnham-On-Sea have given a local charity a boost by holding a fundraising walk. Staff at the Britannia in College Street have raised over £280 for hovercraft charity BARB by holding a sponsored walk from Burnham to Berrow and other events.
Awards for St John Badgers
MEMBERS of Highbridge's St John Ambulance Badgers have been celebrating success after receiving awards during the group's annual presentation evening. Three 'Superbadger' Awards were handed to Katie Watts, Paige Heyward and Jaymie Whitehouse during the evening.

Bloom judges visit Highbridge
TWO judges were 'blooming impressed' when they made a tour of Highbridge during their assessment of the town for the Britain In Bloom competition on Monday (July 19th). Judges Tony Moore and John Bowden were given a guided tour of the town after being welcomed.

Teens plan trip to South Africa
A BURNHAM-On-Sea teenager and his friend are set to to cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End to raise money for a special trip to South Africa where they will be helping underprivileged children. Jack Bennett and his friend Daniel Wright are both 17 and local to the area.
Top pets compete at show
DOZENS of dogs were on best behaviour when the RSPCA held its annual dog show in Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend. The event, held in Manor Gardens, attracted a wide range of pooches and owners, who competed in classes ranging from best puppies to veterans.

THE lady who was killed in last Friday's railway station horror in Highbridge has been named today (Monday, July 19th) as Lynette Rawles. The 61 year-old from Church Street in Mark was officially named by coroner West Somerset's Michael Rose on Monday morning.
Pensioner hurt in town accident
A PENSIONER suffered head and leg injuries in an accident in the centre of Highbridge this afternoon (Monday, July 19th). Police sealed off Market Street for several hours while officers investigated how the woman had been struck by a blue Volvo near the William Hill shop.

WILDLIFE enthusiasts held a 'Dunes Discovery Day' at Berrow Nature Reserve on Saturday (July 17th) to help raise awareness of the importance of the land. A range of activities for all ages took place, including pond dipping, moth identification and a plant hunt, sand craft, badge making and a guided walk.

No new town crier until 2011
