A BUSY Highbridge road junction was closed to traffic on Monday morning (October 2nd) while emergency services dealt with an accident involving a motorcyclist. Burnham-On-Sea paramedics and police rushed to the junction of Burnham Road and Church Street.

Major roadworks start in town
BURNHAM-On-Sea motorists are being warned to expect delays during the next weeks as major roadworks get underway. The first batch of work along Oxford Street starts on Monday (October 2nd) and will last for five days until Friday. Then, next week, work begins on the B3140.

Kenyan group visiting area
A GROUP of Kenyan schoolchildren will be performing at a garden centre near Burnham-On-Sea this month to help raise money to build an orphanage in their home village. The 24 pupils, who are from Mombasa, will be singing and playing the drums at Sanders.

BURNHAM-On-Sea police launched a major operation to crack down on speeding motorists along the town's seafront on Thursday night (Sep 28th). In an operation lasting the whole evening, eleven vehicles were taken off the road and five fixed penalty notices were issued.

PARAMEDICS and fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to the centre of Berrow on Thursday evening (Sep 28th) after a fire in a bungalow injured one person. Paramedics treated a lady for the effects of smoke inhalation and burns after the blaze started at 4.40pm.

AN ELECTRICAL fault on one of Burnham's decorative lights was likely to blame for a six-night blackout along the town's seafront earlier this week. Somerset County Council's street lighting team were called to the Esplanade after 17 street lights were knocked out.

FIRE crews from across Somerset tackled a huge blaze on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea in the early hours of Sunday. The fire service received numerous calls from the public at 1am alerting them to a fire at Church Road in East Huntspill. On arrival, they found two large five-bay barns well alight.

THE possibility of autumn hosepipe restrictions being introduced in Burnham-On-Sea remains very low despite falling reservoir levels in our area, Bristol Water said this week. Cheddar Reservoir, which supplies the town, is now just 62% full - down from 86% full in July.

MORE than 80 anglers lined the water's edge at Burnham on Sunday afternoon (September 17th) when scores of eels were caught during a beach fishing competition. A total of 83 anglers took part in the four hour event, which organisers said had gone very well.

DAMAGE to a power cable on Burnham-On-Sea's famous beach lighthouse has not caused any interruption to its power supply, the town's Harbour Master confirmed on Monday (Sep 11th). The main power cable that provides electricity to the vital navigational light is damaged.
DAMAGE to a power cable on Burnham-On-Sea's famous beach lighthouse has not caused any interruption to its power supply, the town's Harbour Master confirmed on Monday (Sep 11th). The main power cable that provides electricity to the vital navigational light is damaged.
