Talented Debbie, 11, raises cash for Burnham’s Lelaina hovercraft

A schoolgirl who was so moved by the tragic death of five-year-old Lelaina Hall in the mud at Berrow three years ago has raised more than £1,500 for Burnham’s Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft.

Big-hearted Debbie Sinyard, 11, of Red Road, Berrow has raised the money during the last two years by performing songs at Brean during the village’s Country and Western Weeks.

She captures the attention of the audience by performing ‘Seven Spanish Angels’ using Native American sign language.

The King Alfred School student handed over a cheque for £850 to the hovercraft group’s Mel Gosling this week after her most recent performance, following a similar cheque presentation last year.

Mum Caroline Sinyard said: “She heard about the terrible Lelaina tragedy and decided she wanted to help the hovercraft in any way she could. We’re very proud of her.”

BARB crew member Mel Gosling, who is pictured above receiving the cheque, said: “She’s a wonderful girl. We are incredibly grateful for the funds she has raised.”

Debbie is pictured handing over a cheque to BARB’s Mel Gosling alongside Terry Clarke of the Farmer’s Tavern in Brean, which hosted the latest Country and Western week.
