Owner of Highbridge shop to mark 50th year of business after recovering from fire

-

The owner of a long-running Highbridge TV repair shop is set to celebrate his 50th year of business after recovering from a devastating fire which destroyed his shopfront.

More than £20,000 of damage was caused to Mike Jones TV Services in Highbridge’s Church Street when a BMW motorbike burst into flames last summer and spread to the building, as we reported here.

The front of the building was severely damaged in the freak incident, along with stock inside.

Mike says that since then an insurance claim has taken eight months to be fully resolved.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, he says: “After months of disruption while I waited for the insurance claim to be settled, I’m pleased to say that I’m back in full business.”

“It’s been a very disruptive year – I maintained a skeleton business after the fire last year and I’m relieved to be back to normal.”

Mike, 71, adds: “I’ve traded here in Highbridge for 49 years, providing TV repairs and installations across Burnham and Highbridge, having originally started from a premises at the other end of Church Street. I hope to be marking my 50th year.”

Firefighters from Burnham-On-Sea and Bridgwater extinguished the accidental bike blaze last July and battled to avoid it spreading, but nothing could be done to prevent the fire damaging the shop, as pictured here.

The premises has finally been refitted with a new shopfront along with internal repairs.
