Brent Knoll Church’s roof repairs campaign raises £10,000 as fundraising continues

-

A fundraising campaign has raised £10,000 for urgently-needed repairs to the roof of St Michael’s Church in Brent Knoll – and organisers say a final push is needed to raise enough for the work to go ahead.

As first reported here by Burnham-On-Sea.com in August, The Friends of St Michael’s Church is currently raising funds to renew the lead on the roof following a major theft and damage.

£15,000 needs to be raised to allow the work to proceed and a successful fundraising event was held on Saturday (October 5th).

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Rev Kevin Wright, Priest-in-Charge of The Parish of Three Saints including Brent Knoll, said: “On the night of 5th-6th August thieves stole lead from the north aisle roof. The theft became apparent when it rained heavily the following day and water poured through the roof, creating a ‘river’ that flowed down the aisle.”

He added: “How people can choose to desecrate such an historic place of Christian worship in this way is beyond understanding.”
