The Burnham-On-Sea area experienced its hottest day of the year so far on Wednesday (July 1st) as the heatwave sent temperatures soaring.
Temperatures reached 29.7°C (85.46°F) at 3.31pm in Burnham, exceeding the previous record of 28.8°C on Tuesday this week.
Forecasters from the Met Office say after a brief respite with cooler weather and storms over the next few days, the hot conditions will return next week.
Beachgoers enjoyed the balmy weather by paddling and swimming in the sea on Wednesday evening.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Although temperatures are expected to dip slightly on Thursday, we are confident they will rise again from the South on Friday and Saturday. It looks like warm and humid spells of weather could continue into next week with temperatures remaining above average in places throughout this period.”
Public Health England is continuing to remind people to be aware of the health risks of hot weather, saying the elderly and very young in particular should take extra care.
