Residents in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge took part in poignant ceremonies to mark Armistice Day and commemorate the anniversary of the end of World War One on Tuesday (November 11th).
The traditional two-minute silence at 11am marked the time when hostilities ended in 1918.
It was observed in Burnham’s Pier Street, pictured here, where the town flag was lowered during a ceremony led by Reverend Graham Witts.
Burnham’s gathering was attended by Royal British Legion members and the town’s Mayor and Mayoress Martin and Arlene Cox, and residents.
The silence, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, represents the moment when all guns stopped at the end of World War I.
This year’s ceremonies were particularly special due to the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One and 70 years since the D-Day landings.
Highbridge War Memorial Trustees also held a service of remembrance besides the town’s Memorial Garden at Southwell House, conducted by local clergy.
