The Great Burnham Bake Off returns on Saturday 25th October at the town’s Food and Drink Festival and the organising team have this week revealed the judging line-up.

Matt Faulkner from BBC Somerset, right, local business owner Debbie March and Sedgemoor District Council’s Vicky Banham will be assessing the entries.

Festival organiser Beverley Milner Simonds said: “We get a lot of offers and approaches from people wanting to judge the bake off – they have seen the high standards of the bakes at previous competitions and think that they will be able to get a slice of the action.”

“But we have to narrow down the field and we are really pleased with the three judges we have confirmed for the competition. Matt Faulkner is a familiar voice to many listeners to BBC Somerset, Debbie March is a local business owner and Vicky Banham is tasked with promoting Sedgemoor to tourists. We think they are a great mix of local people and we are looking forward to putting their taste buds to the test.”

Debbie March, Manager of The Retreat Caravan Park in Burnham, said: “I am delighted to be one of the judges this year for the Great Burnham Bake Off and look forward to tasting all the wonderful creations from the bakers.”

Matt Faulkner, from BBC Somerset, added: “I am really looking forward to being a part of the judging team for this year’s Great Burnham Bake Off. I have a tremendous sweet tooth that I am very happy to put to good use and can’t wait to try all the entries!”

And Vicky Banham, Tourism Officer from Sedgemoor District Council, added: “I will be on starvation rations ready for the task of tasting the work of all the talented bakers at the festival which is a great showcase for our fabulous Somerset food and drink and a wonderful boost for Burnham on Sea.”

The Great Burnham Bake Off, sponsored by Positive Wealth Creation Ltd, is part of the Burnham-On-Sea Food and Drink Festival. It is free to enter and entry forms can be downloaded from the festival website. Bakes must be brought to Somerset Skills & Learning before 2pm on the day of the festival with a completed form.
