Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Mayor has made a special visit to the town’s Air Cadets group.

Cllr Andy Brwer spent an evening with members of Burnham’s 290 Squadron Detached Flight when he observed the cadets using their flight simulator, having a lesson about the construction and layout of airfields, and practising their drill parade.

During the evening he presented a set of intercom units for the group’s flight simulator, which has been purchased using grant funding from the Town Council.

Jeff Jackson, Training Officer, thanked the Mayor for attending and added that the grant funding: “We are now better able to simulate communication between air traffic control and aircraft using the new equipment.”

He added that the Mayor complimented the Cadets on their turnout and their commitment to the Air Cadets.

The group still has vacancies for new cadets. Minimum age to join is 12 and having started year 8 at school. The cadets meet every Thursday between 19:30 and 21:30 when newcomers are welcome to attend and find out more.
