Burnham-On-Sea food festival underway today despite wet weather

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s 15th food and drink festival is underway today (Saturday, 26th October) despite heavy rain.

Running from 10am-4pm, the festival will see over 100 local food and drink producers present, including farmers’ markets favourites selling high quality beef & lamb, beers and cheeses, speciality teas, gourmet chocolates, chilli oils and fine patisserie.

Festival co-organiser Bev Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The weather forecast is really mixed. We have spoken with the Met Office who say it will be a wet morning and much improved in the afternoon.”

”We are going ahead and will have three smashing indoor venues at The Princess Theatre, Methodist and Baptist Churches, packed with producers and activities.”

“There is also the indoor cider festival at The Ritz and over 80 shops in the town centre that won’t turn away extra footfall! We are keeping in touch with the Met Office and will be keeping visitors and producers’ safety uppermost.”

There will be an impressive range of street food, with global flavours made from local ingredients.

Market stalls will stretch along Princess Street, Victoria Street, College Street and the High Street from Cross Street to Chapel Street.

Festival co-organiser Sarah Milner Simonds told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are proud of the festivals we have created and we have attracted some excellent food and drink producers and we hope that visitors will be interested in the stories behind the produce.”

“Burnham-On-Sea is our home town with an incredible range of award-winning independent stores – we hope that visitors to the festival will explore Burnham-on-Sea and become new regular visitors.”

The event will be fully accessible and there will also be plenty of gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and dairy free options as well as smaller portions. The festival is also single-use plastic free and all food to go packaging is fully compostable- so don’t forget your shopping bags.

In the Methodist Church there is a free cook’s school, where families can learn new skills from seasoned professional Chrissie Godfrey. There is also a drop screen printing workshop in the Baptist Church with Zara Emily.

Outside the Methodist and Baptist churches are DJs providing a laid back vibe to the festival and free cycle check ups from Griffin Cycles outside the Princess Theatre.

Dotted around the festival are street entertainers, buskers, face painter and side show games.

The festival will be open from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 26th October. There is lots going on at the all day festival but the organisers hope visitors take the opportunity to explore the many shops and businesses in Burnham on the day too.

Roads in the town centre will be closed to all traffic from 6.30am to approx 6.30pm.
