A driver has this week been arrested following a dramatic high speed chase along the M5 motorway past Burnham-On-Sea to Weston.

The drama began at just after 8.30pm on Monday night (September 2nd) when Police spotted a car being driving at high speeds along the M5 between Bridgwater and Burnham-On-Sea.

The vehicle was followed along the motorway before it left the M5 at Burnham-On-Sea’s junction 22 and travelled north to Weston.

The car was seen by residents driving being followed by Police with some claiming that the vehicle was travelling at speeds ‘of up to 100mph’.

The car was eventually stopped on Weston’s Bournville Estate where a 23-year-old man from Bridgwater was arrested.

A police spokesman confirmed:  “At 8.40pm officers sighted a car driving at excessive speeds on the M5. The officers followed the vehicle as it left the motorway at J22 before stopping in Weston-super-Mare.”

“A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody.”
